A Tribute to #51 – A Humble American Baseball Hero
Willie McGee embodied the the way sports should be played…with an unrelenting passion for the game and a humble heart.
As a modest and unassuming athlete in a town known as “Baesball Heaven”, Willie quietly lead one of the best baseball careers in MLB history.
His 1985 MVP season produced an incredible slash line of .353/.384/.503. He also finished that season with the most hits and the most triples in the National League as well.
His humble heart. work ethic and love for the game made him one of the most cherished fan favorites in both St. Louis and New York.
His election into the St. Louis Cardinal’s Hall of Fame produced a farewell speech from Willie that epitomizes his character and good spirit.
When I think of what athletes should be, the character they should personify and the love they should bring to the game…I think of Willie McGee.
